Entrepreneurship Week 2011

Empowerment Group champions the need for entrepreneurial development in Philadelphia through our premier event, Entrepreneurship Week. This citywide, week-long event connects local entrepreneurs with each other and with the organizations that serve them. Throughout the week, the Philadelphia community is invited to attend a myriad of events that help further entrepreneurship as a mechanism for change. Entrepreneurship Week has grown considerably since its launch in 2006. With this campaign we provide a springboard for innovation, positive change, and entrepreneurship in our communities. Empowerment Group continues to expand the reach and scope of Entrepreneurship Week year to year, connecting with entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout the greater Philadelphia area.

Entrepreneurship Week informs the general public about the importance of entrepreneurship through a full week of useful and informative events that highlight their ability to create change. Not only are community business owners leaders, but they hire locally and give back to their community. Their presence in our city is important to the future prosperity of Phialdelphia's neighborhoods. Be on the lookout for information on Entrepreneurship Week 2012, April 16-19. Empowerment Group will host another series of events designed to empower Philadelphians to change their lives through entrepreneurship.

Congratulations to Rock to the Future! Winners of EG Stake, 2011

Rock to the Future is a free after school music education and youth development program open to Philadelphia students ages 9-14. The program focuses on the incorporation of music education with academics to create success in school and in life by improving cognitive thinking, learning capacity, socialization skills, self-esteem, and creative thinking.

Students learn an instrument – their choice of guitar, bass guitar, drums, or keyboards – form bands and collaborate with each other across race, gender, and age to write new and original music. Students also attend musical workshops to learn music theory, rhythm and timing, vocals, and music history.

Before they can work on music, students must complete their homework. Students receive daily homework help, tutoring, and attend academic workshops (test taking techniques, reading comprehension, science experiments, etc.) so they can achieve academic success and improve their grades.

Rock to the Future operates Monday-Friday from 3- 6pm at the Atonement Lutheran Church in Fishtown.

The program is absolutely free for students and relies on community support, grants, corporate donations, and private donations to operate.
