Abel, a North Philadelphia furniture business owner, became an Empowerment Group consulting client in September 2003 because he wanted to expand his business. After two months, Abel created four new jobs for people in his community. In a community where jobs are hard to come by, stable, responsible, local employers are the key to ending poverty.
The programs and services that Empowerment Group offers are vital to the growth and advancement of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. An education in financial literacy and entrepreneurship helps our clients realize their dreams while sustaining Philadelphia’s neighborhoods by increasing the number of jobs, local goods and services available. Recent studies indicate that most workers in the United States are living paycheck to paycheck.
Empowerment Group helps clients gain their financial footing by educating them on the intricacies of small business ownership. By teaching Philadelphians what it takes to own a business, and what benefits they can reap, Empowerment Group hopes to decrease the amount of people living paycheck to paycheck, increase the earning potential for each client, and equip start-up entrepreneurs with the tools necessary to succeed.
