Minimize

To increase the capacity of low-income people to improve the conditions of their own lives. VISTA members will serve others and support community residents and organizations to build their capacity to respond to problems in the community.

  • Members serve for 365 days at your site
  • Full-time commitment of at least 40 hours per week
  • Members cannot be engaged in other employment or be enrolled in school
  • Members must attend a Pre-Service Orientation before beginning their term

  • Bi-weekly living allowance ($450.00 in Philadelphia)
  • End-of-service Award (Education Award of $4725 or Cash Stipend of $1200)
  • All members receive 10 personal-leave and 10 medical-leave days per 365 days served
  • Relocation Allowance and Reimbursement (if applicable)
  • Childcare assistance while in service
  • Student loan forbearance or deferment while in service
  • One year of noncompetitive status for a federal government job
